One of the main conversations in developing our project was – who were we going to interview? We wanted to interviewees who had an opinion which would help us to undercover the defying answer to the subject.
We came up with numerous suggestions on the topic, but finalised our interviews to – An ex professional footballer, a semi/professional football, UEL students, a scout. We also thought we would attempt a vox-pop with answers from the general point a view which would make us understand the outsiders point of view.
The first obstacle we tackled on our assignment was the website. We wanted a clear page which would attract/interest a reader at first glance. Out header imager of Sancho, Brewster, Foden was used as they are 3 individuals who are in the public eye as ‘the next generation’. We made sure we had a headline in our work which made the audience become fixated on what the website was about and have an urge to divulge in to what is has to offer.
We then went onto write our project proposal and why we chose to attempt this specific assignment. We discussed ways in which we would look at the assignment and how we would come up with the most successful project possible. We discussed in that work -who we would interview, what we would research, why we believe it would interest a reader.
After creating the foundations for our engaging website. Our next challenge was the recording element. We focused on how we would like our opening scene to be, as we believed that was a crucial part to our piece as it would answer the question in the mind of the audience – Do I want to watch on?
We discussed what we believed to be the most captivating image in regards to the situation we were tackling. After a lot of ‘heated’ discussion we agreed out first scene would be of young footballers playing the beautiful game at their local sport facilities. The main issue which came from this was the legal action we had to undergo to make sure we had permission from parents whilst recording their children participation in physical activity. Luckily we were granted this access.
We tried different angles, different focuses, getting the players to demonstrate different skills. From this we were able to chose and edit the most advanced pieces to add to our project.
Following on from gathering recordings, we took our work to final cut pro, to piece everything together. From the hundreds of snippets we took of footballers demonstrating theirs skills we narrowed it down to a top 5 or so clips which would have the greatest impact on our work. We decided to go with an opening video of a young lad, demonstrating incredible skills with a football. The shot does not go above the individuals waist, focusing primarily on the ball. The text on the scene whilst the video plays, will be our topic title ‘The destination for England’s most elite footballers’ along with our names coming underneath. The text is bold and in white colouring allowing it to be clearly read.
Following on from this image we incorporated the next video to be a wider recording, of a still football covering one half of the picture, and then individuals playing football in the back ground. The text which appears first is a more specific question referring to the situation we will attempt to answer. This then fades out and is followed by stats and figures. We believed we needed to get our stats into the production early so then the audience can see the severity of the issues and from that realise why we are trying to attempt to come up with a conclusion for it.
The whole second scene, was attempting to lay the foundations for what the video contains.
After the second scene we thought it would be best to go into some quotes from high profile individuals in the footballing world. England manager Gareth Southgate, and England u21s manager Aidy Boothroyde. The quotes comes across on after another with an image of someone doing still step overs in the background. The video has a ball dead centre of the shot, which is blurred out behind the text. The blurring aspect, was to try and show the importance of the quotations coming across the screen.
After creating the fundamentals of the video, we moved onto editing the audio and adding music in the background. It caused trouble amongst the group trying to identify the correct music appropriate to out work. We wanted something up beat to go along with the video behind. We also needed to make the audio in the video quieter to make sure there was no cross overs between the two audio pieces.
